” Worship is our effortless response to the nature of God we experience. “
Worship is how we respond to His nature. It’s when our hearts capture how pure & intense God’s love toward us is and it stirs up love and affection for Him. It’s when we are captivated by His beauty & our hearts are overwhelmed by how much a Good God would choose us to be at the impact of His Goodness.
” We love Him because He first loved us. – 1 John 4:19“
The freedom in this verse is this, it is because of His expressed nature which is Love that we are able to love God. Love toward God doesn’t originate from us but it is our response to God’s love toward us. What gives us the drive to pursue God is how much He pursues us.
A heart that truly captures God’s nature is a one that rests because this heart has understood that when & as God shows His love towards him/her, this enables them to mirror that back to God.
But for so many, worship has been reduced to a strenuous activity performed on Sunday. The reason it is strenuous to them is because they’ve not allowed themselves to surrender to His love and rest in God’s goodness.
For a while now, I’ve come to see that indeed the reason there’s a burning desire to go deeper in the things of God is because God Himself desires intimacy with me.
It’s insane that God desires intimacy & vulnerability. It’s insane how He desires to minister to my heart.
I began to see His heart’s intention more clearly recently when He said that He wants to minister to my heart. I was hurting inside, fear was gripping my heart, discord knocking at my friendships. But He caught my heart at ” Let Me minister to you. Let Me wash your feet. ”
This puzzled me. It broke through every pain as He gently whispered, ” this is what Fathers do. ” The more my heart captured the purity of His heart, the more I wanted to just get lost in His beauty. He, as my God, wasn’t oblivious of the brokenness. You don’t know how this pierced through every part of me. Instantenously, so effortlessly, I bowed before Him in adoration.
Worship isn’t an activity, it’s the response of your spirit, soul & body to the beauty of the One who created us.
Slowly, my heart is capturing why David said ” One [thing] have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple. ”
For now I know, the desire to behold the beauty of the Lord stems from an awareness & consciousness of how much He loves & pursues me.
Because He is, I am. Because He does, I rest
